Majeeed’s Bittersweet EP: A Blend of Black Coffee and Fermented Sugarcane Juice (Rum)

The project begins with a dreamy instrumental and choral rendition appealing to the soft spot of the inner mental ears. This helps you relax into the mood the sensational singer wants you to feel.  On the first track -"How I care", Majeed sings out the words of affirmation expressed to him by his lover, declaring the choice of language they've chosen to display deep affection towards him. This track brings out the first squeeze of the fermented sugarcane juice that leaves you in a trance-like state of awe while imagining life on an island with a child-like form of love that comes from the purest depths of the heart.

The monologue right at the end of the first track makes it known that Majeed has indeed written the songs on this masterpiece from a place of deep reflections and realities. One of the prominent lines that draw attention is his modification of a quote from the prominent writer Oscar Wilde, which he uses to emphasize his defined perception of love in these modern times " The true essence of love is underrated in this era, We all know the price of everything but the value of nothing". This opens a new perspective for me and I must appreciate that.

Like a spark lights a buzzing love story, Majeed expresses his interest in a girl who according to Lagos standards of dating is a combination of wahala and sweetness, the type of wahala Majeed seems to like and finds "comfort" in.  She is a heartbroken woman but our Majeed sees a crowned queen and is ready to go all out for her until she reveals her intentions and declares no room for love. This is more evident in the dialogue that ensues between them just after he's professed his love for her. Little did he know that love is an erased word in her vocabulary- Wahala. Frustrated Majeed was even bold enough to propose love as what she needed as a baby girl. Hehehe "we outside" and billings na your mate bro?

It seems what babe told him earlier hit too hard as Majeed sips on his Black coffee ditching his rum for some time. I think Majeed used 20% of his most recent income to attend one of Shola's classes on being an "Alfa Mail". He proceeds to tell us how he has decided to buy food with his last card to give him joy because Yawa no dey end and billings can make a man have an appointment with his maker before the scheduled time. This track which might be a satirical one in nature actually reveals the daily struggle of an average Nigerian male young adult torn between “bills” and “If I perish, I perish” survival mode. I heard Canadian loud also aids in joy-giving, you can try it too bro but I am not involved if EFCC comes knocking. Hehehe, Majeeed got shenked by his babe later that night after returning from his masturdating. Yawa has just started I guess.

At this point, Majeed is tired of being stressed out and begs for soft love. What a perfect gentleman. He asks for peace of mind and less tough love. He's experienced too much tough love and requests for a baby boy treatment. Who showed Majeed how to make a sweeter drink from the mixture of rum and black coffee? I guess that's where his inspiration for the title of this body of reality enclosed in a project comes from. You know, Bitter-sweet. Pain and pleasure.

The new mixture sparks a new hope in our seasoned sensational singer as he expresses how exactly he feels to his crush and how her assumptions hurt him. He adores her smile and the celestial bodies kinda approve from the melodic ad-libs they have added on the chorus of the track, Smile for me. I guess that's the magic he used on her because she just called him babe. Awwwnn that's sweet. She reminds him to bless our ears with a word of admonition on the track  “Time”.

Mama Majeed gives us a short proverb about time in the intro of this track. The importance of time is emphasized by Majeed and how it's important to utilize our time before we run out of it because even time runs out of time. If you need to do something, get it done on time. If you love someone, tell them you do before time runs out which is why he proceeds to tell us how much love he has in his heart and how he cares. She also showers him with words of affirmation. Pheeeew! I can't stop picturing the face of that special someone every time I listen to this project. Love, they say is a beautiful thing and Majeed's message on love against all odds cannot be underappreciated. Listen to his realities today and be blessed.

Writer, not a lover.
